Despre ororile Holocaustului am aflat de la bunici, încă de mic. Ei mi-au povestit cum casele vecinilor erau însemnate cu steaua lui David la intrare. Mi-au povestit cum într-o zi au fost scoși din case cu forța și erau încolonați spre trenurile morții. Oamenii din sat se uitau pe geam la soldații înarmați și.... au amuțit.
Mulți nu s-au mai întors din Transnistria sau Auschwitz.
Tot ei mi-ai povestit că în acei ani nu au existat doar oameni care au silit milioane de familii nevinovate să intre în vagoanele de vite. Nu au existat doar angajați în lagărele de concentrare care au executat sau dat ordine de exterminare. Au existat și oameni care au salvat vieți. Au existat oameni care și-au riscat propria viață, binele propriei familii, prin salvarea altor oameni condamnați la moarte de o ideologie cruntă. Și de aceștia trebuie să ne amintim. Ei au redat speranța că omul nu este o fiară, ci că bunătatea și dragostea de oameni poate învinge!
În biblioteca unchiului meu, am găsit cărți scoase cu aprobarea Partidului Comunist în care erau poze din lagărele de concentrare. Din păcate, era o condamnare care justifica Războiul și ideologia comunistă.... nici pic de compasiune sau vreun efort de a înțelege cum a fost posibil...
Astăzi, avem mai multe surse de informare. Există cursuri, conferințe, cărți și filme documentare sau artistice disponibile la un click distanță. Martorii direcți sunt din ce în ce mai rar de întâlnit. Puțini au avut bunici care au putut vorbi direct cu ei despre una dintre cele mai mari tragedii ale lumii, inclusiv ale României anilor *30-*40.
Consider că școala ar trebui să preia această misiune de a transmite tinerei generații informații legate de ce a însemnat Holocaustul și care sunt granițele discursului și acțiunii publice care nu trebuie încălcate niciodată!
Sper ca atunci când mai ajung în sat să înregistrez câteva interviuri cu bătrânii care își mai aduc aminte despre acei ani. E păcat că timpul se scurge atât de repede și este atât de puțin când este vorba de astfel de proiecte.
